We're Here to Make Comedy Interesting

Next Door Comedy is an independent comedy project based in Barcelona, dedicated to bringing people together through stand-up comedy, original show formats and unexpected live entertainment.

We believe comedy is more than someone holding a microphone and telling jokes for an hour. It's experimentation, creativity, community, taking risks and occasionally watching something go spectacularly wrong – in the best possible way.

That's why we do things a little differently.

We organise stand-up comedy shows, themed comedy nights and original comedy formats designed to give audiences something they won't find at every other comedy show in Barcelona.

Whether you're a long-time stand-up fan, a comedian looking for a stage, an adventurous tourist or someone who just wants a good night out, there's a place for you here.

Not Your Usual Comedy Shows

Barcelona has plenty of great places to see live comedy. We want to add something different to the mix.

At Next Door Comedy, we're particularly interested in creating original formats that challenge comedians, surprise audiences and explore what stand-up comedy can be.

Some of our concepts include:

Insanely Competitive Stand-Up

What happens when you combine stand-up comedy with a competition, unexpected challenges and a little bit of chaos?

You get Insanely Competitive Stand-Up.

Comedians take the stage with a specific task or restriction and have to deliver a short set while playing by the rules. The audience gets to witness the results, decide who's winning and enjoy the beautiful disaster that sometimes unfolds.

It's competitive, unpredictable and definitely not your standard stand-up show.

Neurospicy Comedy Night

Comedy doesn't have to follow conventional rules, and neither do comedians.

Neurospicy Comedy Night is a comedy event created with neurodivergent comedians and audiences in mind. It's a space where ADHD, autism and other neurodivergent experiences, perspectives and ways of seeing the world can find their place on stage and in the audience.

We want to celebrate different ways of thinking, communicating and experiencing life through humour. From painfully relatable everyday situations to wonderfully unconventional observations, there's plenty of material to explore when your brain doesn't always follow the standard operating manual.

Neurodivergent comedians are at the heart of this event, and neurodivergent audience members are especially welcome. Neurotypical comedians and audience members are welcome too! You don't need a diagnosis, a label or a particular brain configuration to enjoy the show.

It's about making comedy more inclusive, discovering different voices and laughing together without expecting everyone to experience the world in exactly the same way.

Trying Stuff

Comedy is an art of experimentation. But before a joke becomes a polished five-minute routine, it usually goes through several questionable stages.

Trying Stuff is about embracing that process.

It's a space for comedians to experiment with new material, test unusual ideas, take creative risks and discover what works. For audiences, it's an opportunity to see comedy in development and experience the creative process up close.

And sometimes, you get to witness the birth of a brilliant joke. Sometimes, you witness its death. Both are part of the fun.

Second Language

Comedy is difficult enough in your first language. Now imagine doing it in your second, third or fourth.

Second Language celebrates multilingual comedy and the experiences of performing, communicating and finding humour across cultures.

It's about language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, unexpected connections and the wonderfully strange experience of trying to make an entire room laugh in a language you didn't grow up speaking.

These are just some of the ideas behind our shows. We like experimenting, developing new concepts and finding fresh ways to bring comedians and audiences together.

Supporting Comedians and Growing the Comedy Community

A great comedy scene needs more than venues and audiences. It needs opportunities.

We believe that comedians should have places to perform, experiment, meet other performers, develop their material and find their own voices.

That's why Next Door Comedy isn't just about putting on shows. We're also interested in building a community around live stand-up comedy in Barcelona.

Our events create opportunities for:

  • New comedians to get stage experience and perform in front of live audiences.

  • Experienced performers to experiment with new material and unusual formats.

  • International comedians to connect with Barcelona's diverse comedy scene.

  • Audiences to discover new performers and experience comedy beyond traditional stand-up shows.

We welcome different styles, backgrounds, perspectives and approaches to humour. After all, comedy would be rather boring if everyone told the same jokes in the same way.

An International Comedy Project

Next Door Comedy has roots in the international stand-up community.

Before bringing the project to Barcelona, we were involved in building an English-speaking comedy community in Serbia, working with local and international comedians and organising shows, open mics and original comedy events.

That experience shaped the way we approach comedy today: independently, creatively and with a strong belief in the importance of community.

And our story in Serbia didn't end when we moved on to Barcelona. Our little brother, Tight Five, continues the journey there, carrying on the spirit of independent English-language comedy and bringing comedians and audiences together in Serbia.

Barcelona felt like a natural place to continue expanding that journey.

It's an international city, full of people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. It's also a city with an appetite for live entertainment, new experiences and creative ideas.

We want Next Door Comedy to be part of that landscape, contributing to Barcelona's growing international comedy scene and creating events where people can connect through laughter, regardless of where they come from.

Different cities, different comedians, different audiences – but the same love of comedy.
